Things I witnessed my first time chaperoning a middle school dance:

A gaggle of girls surrounding a boy in the hallway to relay a dance request for a girl too shy to ask herself.

More kids (especially boys) in the hallway for the games than in the cafeteria for the dancing.

Boys taking plastic spiders from the wall decor and putting them in girls' drinks.

Exactly ONE couple that was clearly on some semblance of a date.

Exactly TWO couples dancing, total, the whole night.

Enough candy consumption to kill Willy Wonka.

Enough pizza consumtion to kill the Noid.

Lots and lots of group dancing.

Note passing.

My son having a great time while being the kind, considerate kid I know him to be, even in all that chaos.
